Bruxism

Chronic stress or high pressure situations can cause people to develop a damaging habit known as bruxism or the clenching or grinding of the teeth. Since it's a harmful habit that wears down biting surfaces, misaligns the bite and can lead to serious dental problems, our office screens each patient for warning signs including: unexplained sensitivity in teeth and gums, jaw pain and headaches.

Studies have shown that hyperactive muscles caused by bruxism can contribute to headaches. In our State College office, we can fabricate appliances that can be adapted to minimize muscle spasms in order to significantly reduce or eliminate grinding or clenching of the teeth and bruxism related headaches.
